Semi Autonomous Care Robot (SACRO)

In the SACRO project Heemskerk Innovative Technology (HIT) cooperates with Barcelona-based PAL Robotics to develop a new service robot concept for the care market. The robot will help elderly or disabled people with their activities of daily life in and around the house, such as the preparing the breakfast table or taking out the garbage.

Challenge
To deliver cost-effective care to the elderly and disabled, and improve the quality of life of the patients.

Solution
A care robot which can assist the elderly and disabled at their home, performing ADL tasks at the request of the patient autonomously or under manual control from a remote care center, remote caregiver or the patient himself. The robot is able to perform a variety of tasks (Activities of Daily Living or ADLs). This allows people to live independently for longer and the control is held in private hands.

Contribution HIT
Heemskerk Innovative Technology coordinates the SACRO project and is responsible for the project management, the development of the remote cockpit, the object recognition and learning, and for the field tests.

At the start of the project in April also the Dutch company Rose was part of the team. Rose BV has recently ceased operations. The role of Rose within the SACRO project has been taken over by HIT.
