iCaLo at the European Robotics Forum

We recently had the opportunity to present iCaLo at the European Robotics Forum in Stavanger, Norway, as part of the workshop “AI-Driven Service Robotics for Healthcare: Safety, Adaptability, and User Experience.” The session brought together experts from academia, industry, and healthcare to discuss how intelligent robotics can enhance patient care, improve operational efficiency, and overcome barriers to large-scale deployment.
Our presentation, “Healthcare Robotics in Practice: Experimental Trials, Challenges, and Lessons Learned,” was delivered by Jasper Schol and drew on years of hands-on trials and testing in real healthcare environments. By sharing the knowledge and lessons gained from these experiences, we highlighted both the potential and practical challenges of deploying robotics in hospitals.
We also showcased the iCaLo system, combining our software with PAL Robotics’ TIAGo Base and TIAGo Pro hardware, to create a fully autonomous logistics chain. This includes task coordination, mobile manipulation, and solving the “last mile” problem. The system handles full logistics tasks such as order picking, delivery, and stocking, enabling robots to operate efficiently throughout the entire hospital environment.
By automating repetitive logistical tasks, iCaLo reduces the workload on healthcare staff, allowing them to dedicate more time to patient care. The workshop provided a fantastic platform to exchange ideas, validate our approach, and share both the iCaLo vision and our expertise with the European robotics community.
