A team of Stratagem Group BV and Heemskerk Innovative Technology BV of the Netherlands in cooperation with Helios Applied Systems Pte Ltd, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital Singapore is developing a pilot demonstrator under the name HEART that is based on a new generation of haptic feedback to reproduce the tactile sensation with soft and elastic tissues experienced by surgeons in the real settings based on currently available haptic simulation and software. The development is conducted at locations in Delft and Singapore with the objective to allow trainees in (pediatric) cardiac surgery to gain experiences and to achieve better competency, but also to simulate individual complex surgeries for preoperative planning.
